Yes, And: An Improviser's View on Custom eLearning

We had a hilarious and informative webinar this week with Ivan Bigney from our Custom Solutions team. In addition to being a top-notch Custom Solutions Consultant, Ivan is a regular in the local improvisational comedy scene.

As Ivan showed us in this webinar, improv is about working with what your partner gives you to create something great by saying “yes, and…” to the prompts or story they’re telling you. The “Yes, and…” technique is also one you can use every day in the workplace to generate ideas and build something amazing. eLearning Brothers Custom Solutions team does just that.

The Custom Solutions team follows a “start anywhere and go everywhere” motto when evaluating new custom eLearning client projects. We can take anything you give us—from the smallest grain of an idea to old Flash eLearning that needs conversion to a fully mapped out eLearning strategy—and build on that to provide a final eLearning product. The process is exciting and keeps you on your toes, just like an improv performance!

Both improv and eLearning require an understanding of storyline, story structure, and how to engage the audience. As all eLearning professionals know, engaging the audience is key. In the webinar, Ivan shared an example of an eLearning project developed by our Custom Solutions team that made learners say “yes” and shared ideas for how to get a “yes” from both learners and stakeholders.

Watch the recording below to find out how to get that “yes” from your learners—and to see Ivan and special guest Drew Young, our conference coordinator, perform a hilarious improv sketch based on audience-suggested topics. It features kitten barbers, boats, and the dreaded annual performance review!

Disclaimer: No kittens were harmed in the making of this webinar.

If you’re struggling to get a “yes” from your learners, contact the eLearning Brothers Custom Solutions team and see how we can help.
