Video is a super powerful tool, and TechSmith’s Camtasia has the abilities to make videos interactive by using hotspots. I hosted a joint webinar last week with Jason Valade from TechSmith where we went over the basics for hotspots and interaction.
In this webinar, we went through the steps to create a hotspot, the options you have once the hotspot is created, and gave examples of some of their uses. Much of the time is taken up answering questions that opened up important topics such as where interactive videos can be published. The camtasia hot spot video is great. I would love to see the Brothers doing a series of Camtasia videos with a focus on “how to make your videos look like a professional job” – use of transitions to create visual appeal – which ones to use and when and how? – should something fly in or out and if so, from where? How to achieve similar effects as what we see in advertisements? Also, showing what other people have done with Camtasia and how to achieve those effects.
cheers
Thanks for your suggestion Sharyn! We’ll deffinately look into producing some video “best practices” in the future!
For the hotspots. I would like to add a call out that will take people to a website (open up in a new browser window) of the eLearning platform that we use. Will it be lost (disabled) when I turn it to a SCORM file and upload it to our vendors LMS platform?
Hey Bette!
When uploading an interactive video with the TechSmith Smart Player to an LMS (Canvas by Instructure), I have never lost any of the interactivity features. I have not had a chance to test the SCORM compatibility, but as I understand it there should be no issues. If you find any new information on this subject, please let us know!
