John Blackmon, Trivantis CTO, joined us on the eLearning Rockstars Stage at DevLearn 2018 to talk about one of the hottest new things in learning: virtual reality (VR) training. Trivantis recently released a new tool, CenarioVR, which makes it easy for developers to create immersive VR training modules. John shared a demo of CenarioVR, as well as walked attendees through the history of VR, the pros and cons of different headsets available on the market today, and showed examples of ways to use virtual reality for learning.
Some of the VR viewing options that John covered in his presentation are:
- Oculus Go
- Samsung Gear VR
John shared many benefits of CenarioVR, including:
- Build immersive training in hours, not weeks
- Access training from the browser; no headset required
- Publish to your LMS using SCORM, cmi5, or xAPI; and assign directly to learners

Feeling inspired? We rounded up some more AR/VR resources in this post: Word on the Street: AR/VR in Education, including links to some projects done by eLBX 2018 speaker Dr. Anders Gronstedt. The Gronstedt Group is a digital training agency that develops educational games and simulations, videos, and augmented and virtual reality simulations. They are creating some super cool stuff that we can all take inspiration from!
