In this week’s webinar, Award-Winning Projects – It’s All in the Design!, Richard Vass, Director of Custom Solutions & Strategy shared some past projects our custom team has created and gave attendees a look behind the scenes at some of the processes and strategies we use when developing interactive, custom eLearning.
Attendees were very interested in how we evaluate projects and define “interactivity levels” for the purpose of project planning and pricing. We received many questions about interactivity levels, including:
“Can you include the descriptions of interactivity level descriptions and content readiness tier descriptions?”
“Quickie guide for levels of interactivity?”
Here is how we define each level of interactivity.
Level 1 Course
This is a basic course, generally used for relaying straightforward information that requires awareness and understanding, but does require practice or interaction. It includes simple, functional interactions in order to visually chunk information. A Level 1 course will look great and deliver the information but doesn’t contain any upgraded interactions or media.
Level 2 Course
This course is the standard level of awesome for eLearning Brothers, and is the level preferred by many of our customers. Level 2 courses take the learner’s experience up a notch and include cognitive interactions allowing participants to apply information as well as experience a
few special upgrades in just the right places.
Level 3 Course
This is our enhanced course level, for those customers who are looking to take an awesome course to the next level. Courses at these levels are generally great candidates for awards, and impress your audience with out-of-box ideas and experiences. An enhanced course is worth it when you’re seeking to make an impact on an organization and leave a lasting impression.
Attendees also asked about content readiness tiers. These are a helpful way to set clear expectations around how much time a course will take.
No Content: No content currently exists from the course. Content needs to be sourced from other materials, internal subject matter expert interviews, research, and other means by the eLearning Brothers team and fully written to form complete content.
Some Gaps: Most of the necessary content exists, but there are some gaps that need to be closed through subject matter expert interviews, and other research and writing activities by the eLearning Brothers team.
Design Ready: The full content needed for the course has been compiled and is ready to be provided to the eLearning Brothers team in a way that enables them to start design with no more than 4 hours of subject matter expert interviews.
Development Ready: The client will provide a designed storyboard for eLearning Brothers to build that requires no ID. This means that the content, audio scripting, visual layout, page functionality, image selection, quizzes, and all other functional/design-related decisions have been made by the client and clearly documented for an eLearning Brothers developer to implement.
Another question was, “Could you please repeat the 5 key roles?”
Rich had mentioned that for every project our custom team works on, we assign 5 key roles to ensure success. They are:
- Project Manager
- Graphic Artist
- Instructional Designer
- QA Specialist
Bigger projects might involve multiple people in each role, but these are the specific roles we’ve found are necessary for a successful, on-time, on-budget piece of eLearning awesomeness!
