These points should be treated as standard guidelines to start off with any e-learning module. In all great effort to make it one.

A useful and practical list but I have a problem with Point 4 - Matching your e-learning to your company's branding. Frequently when designing e-learning for clients we end up running into the organisations's 'brand police' who want the e-learning to look like their PowerPoint templates. Why? Because PowerPoint is the closest thing they have to something e-learning like. It's important to resist this otherwise you fall into the trap made in Point 1 above!

Obviously we need to include company branding somewhere but we normally use it on a splash/intro screen and then only lightly on the player. Also remember that you may be building many courses covering different subject areas so you want to have some diversity in your design.

Excellentt article indeed. Agreed with Jonena, use of excessive irrelevant graphics in any course is a big no no. Often designers get carried away with the prettiness and forget to get the message across with the course.

Wonderful article outlining the "high-level" considerations when putting together online training. Great reminders for those who have been designing and developing for years ---- sometimes we need help remembering why we do what we do. Awesome information for those starting in the training business. Thanks for creating and sharing!!

Amazing article! You really know what you are talking about. I like point 2 the most: the SME is not the education designer.
