How to Get the Most Out of Your Camtasia LibraryWhen you download a template from the eLearning Brothers Camtasia Template Library, it comes to you in one of two ways. If you’re on a Mac, it comes as a project file that is easily merged with your current project (you can watch this be done in an awesome webinar we did a few months back). If you’re on a PC, it comes as a Library Zip file that you can import into your Camtasia library. Unfortunately, this does not work as of now with the Mac version of Camtasia.

Library Zip files are great, and it’s important to know how to use them to effectively use any sort of Camtasia template on PC. We made a basic tutorial on how to import one that you can watch, but today I’m going to talk about a few new ways to manipulate these files that you might not have thought of. Hopefully you’ll find them useful.

-Edit a template and then save the new and improved template to my library.

I love the Outdoors template, but it didn’t quite match my current project. So I opened the Outdoors template and placed it where I wanted it on my timeline.

Then I make my edits to the template to fit the feel and attitude of my project.

Once I have my new intro, I know that I am going to want to use this newly edited intro several times in the future, so I’m going to save it to my library for safekeeping. Right clicking on the group will bring up a menu. I’ll select “Add to Library”

This will add it to your library ready to be renamed.

Now that it is in your library, all you need to do is drag and drop it onto your timeline any time you want to use it.

-Create a custom intro and save it to my library.

You can follow the same principles with other items that you create. If you want to create your own intro, or callout, or anything you want, you can then save it to the library by right clicking.

-Have a favorite soundtrack? Save it to the library.

This trick even works with audio files. Add it to the library and you’re ready to use it any time.

-Share a new standard file with your team.

Another great advantage to using the Camtasia library is that you can not only save templates you’ve modified or created, but also share them with your team to use.

Just right click on your library item, and select “Export Selected Assets”

This will bring up a dialogue box for you to choose where to save your template on your computer.

Now you can pass that file around to anyone who has your version of Camtasia or newer. This can be a great way to get great collaborative projects or to ensure your videos are consistent with your brand.
