3 Things to Consider for eLearning Translation

Have you ever faced the challenge of managing eLearning translation, or localization of training into other languages? It can be a little tricky. Especially, for those who have never made courses for a global audience. If you find that your training will need to localized, don’t fall into the thinking that you don’t have to consider the localization until the original course is complete and approved. There are decisions that you can make during the early stages of course development that can make localization easier and save you time and...

Dancing with eLearning Monsters

Years ago when I studied art in college, one of my favorite professors told me, “Art is a dance. Sometimes you lead it, sometimes it leads you.” That quote really struck a chord with me and I’ve never forgotten it. Through the years I’ve come to realized that it’s applicable not only to art but more specifically to eLearning modules and development. Sometimes you lead it, sometimes it leads you. It’s all about interactivity. The learner interacts with the learning module just as an artist interacts with the artwork just as the developer...

12 Steps on How to Set up Your Machine for Virtual Testing

Brother Nathan from eLearning Brothers checking in with tips on how to set up your machine for virtual testing. No matter how hard you follow best practices of web design it’s always broken in another browser. When I first learned web design it was aggravating to get a site working perfectly in Firefox and Safari, than opening up in Internet Explorer 6. I hate IE 6. A little of my inner web designer would die each time it broke a web page. Thank goodness, April 2014 Microsoft will FINALLY stop supporting this browser, and the world can focus...

Getting Inspiration From Other Designs

Getting Inspiration From Other Designs

This week I stubbled onto a website that inspired me (screenshot above). I Love clean, simple, bright designs which this has. Usually I tend to design layouts that have more depth to them. Depth is created with gradients and shadows. Though there is some depth, this design is mostly flat but works excellent because the layout is compositionally balanced. Below are some screenshots of what I came up with that could be used for an eLearning course.     I simply downloaded a few templates from our eLearning Template Library and modified the...

Watercolor eLearning Course Backgrounds

I’m always looking for fresh new designs to use when I’m design eLearning courses. A while back I was inspired by a watercolor effect that someone used for a marketing piece. Today I finally blocked out some time to play around and recreate some of my own watercolor backgrounds for eLearning. Below are some examples of what I came up with.    I created these backgrounds in Adobe Photoshop. To make the watercolor effect, I used a Photoshop Brush set which can be downloaded here. Designing eLearning with a Grid

Websites and magazines have been using grid systems for years to design content and layouts. eLearning courses could benefit from applying this concept as well. It will help organize content and make it easier for a user to sort through and “digest”. Here are some details, resources and examples: What is a Grid System? (From 978 Grid System) “A grid is an underlying structure in which a design is built upon. It consists of rows and columns that are used to align text and images. It allows you, as a designer, to make...
